CBD & The Endocannabinoid System
Cannabidiol – or CBD – is one of the many cannabinoids found in the hemp and cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are the natural compounds in the plant and they naturally bind to the receptors of the endocannabinoid system in human body. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) and their receptors are found throughout the body and each tissue performs a task. It moderates our appetite and digestion, metabolism, pain, inflammation, immune system responses, mood, learning and memory, speech, sleep, cardiovascular function, bone remodeling and growth, liver function, reproductive function, stress, and skin and nerve function. Endocannabinoids allow for communication and coordination between these different cell types. Our ECS helps keeps these functions in a healthy balance and this is called homeostasis. CBD helps to maintain a stable internal balance despite the pressures of the external and if you struggle with managing one of these functions, consuming CBD on a regular basis can help you manage that and bring the body's homeostasis back to a balanced state. Research suggests that CBD can help with pain, nausea, and other symptoms associated with an unbalanced ECS.

The Benefits of Terpenes
Terpenes are a major compound found in all plants including hemp & cannabis. Terpenes are responsible for the aroma of the plant like the citrusy scent in lemons or the spicy scent in cinnamon. Short History of Hemp
By 1850, hemp was in the United States Pharmacopeia, a historical text, that recorded the medical uses of hemp. Up until 1937, the hemp industry was skyrocketing, seeing new technologies such as the hemp decorticator, a machine that would speed up the harvesting and production process making manufacturing more cost-effective. Hemp was on it's way to being a "Billion Dollar Crop", as claimed in the February 1938 issue of Popular Mechanics Magazine. It could create medicine, clothing, food, shelter, and even Henry Ford once made a Hemp Car made completely out of hemp fiber which also ran on hemp fuel. "Why use up the forest which were centuries in the making
and the mines which required ages to lay down,
if we can get the equivalent of the forest and
the mineral products in the annual growth of the fields?"
-Henry Ford-
So you may be asking yourself, if hemp was once such an important and useful plant to society, how and why did it become illegal?
Well with the rise of oil companies, paper printing companies, plastic and lumber production, and the pharmaceutical industry, hemp was becoming quick competition in the eyes of the wealthy powerful people who financed and own these corporations. And with the help the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, Harry J. Anslinger, who served from 1930 - 1962, The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 was put into place, increasing taxes greatly on the crop. And with cotton being sewn for clothing, trees being cut for paper, twine being used for rope, and the rise of pharmaceuticals, growing hemp wasn’t worth the tax and eventually, hemp production started to slow down.
It wasn't until 1946 that scientists discovered CBD and THC. Today's science has proved that the hemp plant contains less than 0.03% of THC, the psychoactive compound, meaning the traces of THC in hemp is so little that it cannot give you those psychoactive effects unlike its relative, cannabis. But before science was so advanced they argued that hemp and cannabis were one of the same. And as the propaganda on the subject continued through the decades, at last The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 was born, classifying all forms of cannabis, including hemp, as a Schedule I drug.
But in 2018 The New Farm Bill was passed, once again making the cultivation of hemp legal! That is why you now see CBD oil in every grocery store across America! CBD products are sweeping the nation and they are now accessible to anyone. Hemp is back on the fast track to being a billion dollar crop once again and what we have seen of the hemp industry so far is only the beginning. With the endless list of things hemp can be used, for we are in for a treat to see what's to come!
